What do naked dreams mean

Being naked is a common dream symbol. Whether you were disturbed by your dream of being naked or found it enjoyable, you have come to the right place for learning to understand its symbolism. Nudity is the state of nature often enjoyed by innocent children, so a dream of being naked can symbolize a desire to escape the burdens of adulthood and society. While clothing offers protection from the elements, its use to cover up private parts of the body used in sexual activity and elimination is usually enforced by society.

Many dreams of being naked therefore have to do with how you relate to other people in a collective setting.

Nudity exposes what is hidden, so, if you are hiding something you are ashamed of, a dream of being naked could symbolize your fear of that being revealed.

Clothing is a boundary between people, so dreaming of nudity can be symbolic of other issues regarding boundaries between yourself and other people.

If the emotional atmosphere of your dream is negative, it could be referring to a situation where someone is oversharing or demanding attention in an uncomfortable way.

If your nudity dream feels good, though, it might refer to a situation where you have lowered your inhibitions enough to be honest with someone else about something that matters.

While boundaries are necessary to keep society running, knowing when to adjust them is important too. Small children commonly run around naked without there being a sexual meaning to it. If the person in question is old enough to know better, though, the situation could have an element of willful blindness, where they are choosing not to see things they find inconvenient.

Seeing nudity in your dream could symbolize a desire to get back to nature, like in the TV show Naked and Afraid. You might idealize nature as superior to the repression of society. Nudity can therefore be involved in a dream that has sexual content. While sexual dreams can in some cases be symbolic of other areas of life, sometimes they simply indicate sexual desire.

This interpretation could be especially appropriate if you felt very embarrassed or humiliated during your dream. A dream of being naked can symbolize a situation where you want people to pay attention to you and are willing to do something crazy to get noticed.

You may feel so neglected that you would rather get negative attention from people being shocked or disturbed than continue in your current state of feeling ignored. I know firsthand — every so often, I have one. Since it's a recurring theme for me, I started to wonder what causes them.

Are they stress dreams, like the ones people have about missing an important school exam? I asked Stephanie Gailing , dream analyst and author of upcoming book The Complete Book of Dreams on sale September , to weigh in on what's behind my nudist fantasies. The dream might pop up at a time you feel unprepared for something at work, for example.

Big presentation, inadequate time to prepare. Or it could be triggered by embarrassment. Spilled an entire cocktail on a new date. Gailing says the common thread is vulnerability — they may be a way you process your sense of powerlessness, especially if you've been feeling anxious or upset about anything. I'm always horrified to "discover" that I forgot to put on clothes — but some people remember feeling totally fine with it in their twilight state, Gailing notes.

The fact that I wind up sans clothes in my sleep repeatedly offers another clue to my mental state. Next time I have one of these dream, Gailing suggests I ask myself what it's showing me about my feelings regarding recent experiences.

But how often do you wake up feeling blissful? There are days when you end up dreaming about bizarre things. Dreams may seem illogical, but do you know whether they wish to indicate something? Many people often see themselves naked in their dreams.

And it does have a connection to the way they think or what they do in their lives. Nakedness often reflects a person's insecurities. If a person sees himself naked in his dream, then he fears that his insecurities might get revealed. It also indicates that he may fear getting exposed. For instance, he may pretend to be someone, but in reality, he could be entirely different.

So, he may fear that his real face may get unveiled. Nakedness could also indicate a person's innate fears of revealing his weaknesses. He may fear that something that is hugely personal might get exposed publicly. Moreover, he may feel ashamed of something that might not necessarily be an object of ridicule.
