What is the difference between arcgis server and arcims

Following are some common tasks for working with ArcIMS service layers. The ArcIMS layer is initially contracted in the table of contents.

Click the plus symbol to expand the service layer to see its sublayers and legend information. Note the line connecting the sublayers. This line denotes that you are prohibited from inserting a layer within this service group layer or breaking apart the service layer into its constituent sublayers. The Source tab displays information such as the map extent, data service type, URL, version of the ArcIMS server, access restrictions, and coordinate system of the service.

This tab also lists access restrictions, unavailable output types, forbidden requests, and information on whether query results from the server include feature geometry. The Source tab for each sublayer includes the following:. The Set Data Source button on the Source tab enables you to repair the map service layer if for any reason the connection to the server was interrupted when opening the map.

You can tell if the layer needs repairing because it isn't drawn, its check box in the table of contents is unavailable, and there is a red exclamation mark next to its check box. This also enables you to specify a different ArcIMS image service for this layer. You cannot choose a different service type to set the data source. Using ArcGIS Enterprise , users can publish additional types of services such as geocode services and geoprocessing services that you can use throughout your ArcGIS Enterprise environment.

However, ArcGIS Enterprise provides additional security and authentication options through web-tier authentication, Active Directory, and more. You can also access and incorporate Esri -curated ArcGIS Living Atlas content such as basemaps, imagery, demographics, infrastructure, and environmental data. Distributed collaboration enables the sharing of layers, maps, and other data from one system to the other. For many, this makes data more accessible across an entire organization and allows for workflows such as managing data in ArcGIS Enterprise and sharing it with the public through ArcGIS Online.

Organizations often implement ArcGIS Enterprise when they require full control over the hardware running the system or when data is prohibited from being physically stored off-site or on infrastructure not controlled by the organization. ArcGIS Enterprise is also an option when servers, computers, and devices in the organization are not connected to the internet or have an unreliable internet connection.

In addition, many organizations choose to deploy ArcGIS Enterprise when advanced analytical capabilities and distributed processing power is needed. What are your service level agreements and expectations? Who will need access to your system and where will they be accessing it? What analytical capabilities are needed?
