Realizing that by accepting the promotion he acknowledges this as his career, he quits happily. Phoebe mentions a chef vacancy to Chandler, who is now unemployed. Chandler declines, but Monica is thrilled and intrigued. She invites Steve , the owner, to dinner at her apartment , where she cooks a gourmet meal for him. Phoebe comes along to "make yummy noises", while Rachel helps Monica by waitressing. Unfortunately, Phoebe points out to Rachel who points out to Monica that the guy's stoned.

Monica thinks Rachel's kidding until she sees that Steve is far more interested in eating instant mac and cheese, taco shells, and gummy bears than the fancy gourmet menu he's seeking out for his restaurant. Monica calls off the dinner after her mistake. Chandler takes aptitude tests to find out what new career he should pursue, but finds out his ideal career is the one he just quit.

When he receives a call from his boss offering a big raise to accompany the promotion, he accepts his new job role. It turns out to be a job that he has to care about, which makes him hate himself. His display easily could have lead to termination as his complete lack of interest in his work clearly showed he didn't want to be there. While Chandler eventually smooths things over by agreeing to relocate, his boss is clearly displeased with Chandler's behavior and easily could have used it as a reason to let him go.

Chandler's behavior during the meeting that ended with him agreeing to go to Oklahoma only showed how little Chandler actually cared about his job. Not only had he spent years complaining that he didn't enjoy what he did as a career, but the move ultimately forced him to spend the majority of his time far away from his wife and friends. While Chandler eventually realized that the work relocation wasn't worth what he was losing, it never should have gotten as far as moving to Oklahoma.

In "The One with Rachel's Date," Chandler pretends his name is Toby because he doesn't want to correct his co-worker, things end up getting out of hand.

Eventually, Chandler helps his colleague Bob destroy "Chandler's" office, as Chandler is why Bob is passed over for promotion. While trashing company property would never be considered okay, doing so to hide your true identity from your colleague only makes it look worse. Chandler also makes plenty of questionable remarks about shedding work documents and watching porn that is taken as jokes, even though they make it clear that Chander doesn't care about what he's doing.

But, of course, helping to destroy paperwork and expensive electronics was more than enough of a reason for his company to let Chandler go. One issue that definitely should have led to Chandler turning in his resignation was when his boss caused a scene at Chander and Monica's engagement party. According to the couple, Doug got drunk and urinated on an ice sculpture, an offensive and disruptive action that should have led to much larger consequences.

While the disturbance from his boss is only mentioned on the show referencing why Doug wasn't invited to their wedding, the long history of uncomfortable behavior should have made Chandler realize there was a much bigger issue at hand. Joey ends up causing trouble at work after Chandler gets him a position at the office as an entry-level processor. The clear lack of knowledge as to what he was doing, not to mention Joey blaming Chandler for his own mistakes easily could have led to Chandler getting fired for bringing in an incompetent worker who was slowing everything down.

Despite Joey questioning Chandler about his lack of experience, Chandler brushes it off, telling him that if people realize he has no clue what he's doing, he should "act like a processor," and people will believe him. Chandler's obvious lack of concern for his job and the rest of the office clearly showed he didn't care about what was happening at his workplace.
